"Otakanini Topu farm is rich in culture and has historical significance within the South Kaipara region. It is scattered with sacred Pa sites, kumara pits and places where old houses used to exist. This is a place where I feel most relaxed and at peace with myself. It is connected to me as it has been passed down through my whānau and it is a place where I feel safe and protected. I wanted to learn more and experience how my ancestors lived through the capturing of these sacred lands. It has always been a working farm, providing for my family, which is why I capture the inside of an old shearing shed. It represents my past, present and future. I want my photography to tell a story, evoke emotions, and provide insights into this way of life, showing viewers the beauty and significance of this lifestyle. My photography relates to me as it has cultural significance and importance to my family. I love farming and I thought that photographing these images will give me more insight on how farmers live their lives day to day and the hard work they put in."
