"The main message I want to convey through my work is, 'Protect nature and to keep the beauty of the world'. I combined both my Chinese heritage and the New Zealand culture, both elements of which I equally treasure; the peony and the kiwis, together they showed my identity and portrayed my desire of putting my whole self into the beautiful nature. As the kiwi is the native bird of New Zealand and the peony is the national flower of China, combining the two most beautiful things to me, illustrated the importance of protecting the environment and the animals. The exploitation of resources has led to the destruction of natural environments, and the world's natural landscapes are diminishing as a result. I hope I can keep this sight in my eyes and in my artwork. It will forever be beautiful. After 10 years of living in China, I have finally returned home to the land of the long white cloud. From a busy bustling city of Beijing to my home in Hamilton, the first thing I saw was the beauty of nature; the vast peaceful landscape, the blooming flowers, and my favourite fruit, peaches. It was like a breath of fresh air. I wanted to convey my happiness of being home through the vibrant colours in my paintings. I wanted the view to standstill and to always stay as beautiful as the way I see it. A reminder of China, and a new adventure ahead, either way, I am blessed to have seen both sights."
