"I want to communicate the beauty of the broken world around us. A lot of our buildings in Christchurch are left alone and abandoned but that doesn’t mean they have lost all potential to be beautiful. My buildings are a metaphor for people as our current suicide rate in NZ is particularly high which in some cases is due to people feeling lonely or abandoned. My art was created to show the beauty of all the forgotten, burnt and rundown places.

While my parents were going through a divorce they struggled to find time to look after me and my siblings. I often felt alone and isolated. My sister was always with her friends and my brother was too young to understand. I was either in my room, in between the fights or sitting at school in the playground alone. I had so much potential but instead, people walked past me without acknowledgement. After everything was settled my dad moved out and my mum found time for me. After she showed me love and expressed how beautiful I was, I found my confidence and made some amazing friends."
