"I wanted to convey the idea of actively trying to see the beauty in life. To begin my painting process, I look for one image to stem as my inspiration for the piece. Whether it be through the images’ use of colour, form or composition. This initial image helps me in deciding the style I want to paint it in as well as the mood I want my painting to portray. I want the viewer to notice the beauty and simplicity of the things around them, and furthermore how such beauty can evoke emotion. In school this year I am taking classics and the subject matter that we have been studying has greatly influenced my art. With much of my portfolio centering around classical figures and symbols. I painted a number of statues after learning about the intricacy of their design in class, along with various architectural elements that have been inspired by that of Ancient Greece/Rome. Artists such as Susanne Kuhn, Hernan Bas and Matthias Weischer have been extremely helpful in my art due to unique styles, colouring and composition. As well as some of my favourite artists such as Monet, Sarolla and Van Gogh.”
