Sophia Ross

My artwork is all about childhood nostalgia and the way places hold memories. I grew up on the Tutukaka Coast, and my paintings explore the deep connection between location and identity. This piece is a nod to how whenua represents both the joys of youth and the uncertainty of growing up. Through texture, layering, and natural materials, I try to bring that feeling to life, making my work a reflection of change—just like the tides. My paintings are about holding onto moments, celebrating where I come from, and exploring how places shape who we are.
