“Since I was a child, I have been exposed to Hip hop. My family has been a big part of that and has influenced my love for it as I have grown. I chose the Evolution of Hip hop as my theme for my painting folio last year originally as an excuse to research something I already had a passion for, but it turned into something bigger than that. Throughout the year, I learnt so much history leading me to have a newfound respect for the culture. Hip-hop was born out of the rubble of the Bronx; where there was destruction, something beautiful was created. My piece ‘Sample’ pays homage to the foundation of Hip hop music, where DJs would layer samples of the past and connect them to the present."
