Sarah Yip
You, the viewer, looking at my work, could not summarise this piece in a short paragraph. Likewise, neither can I! However, being the artist, I can try. I primarily use watercolour paints and pen, two contrasting mediums with characteristics of both fluidity and rigidity. I want viewers to experience what I felt in my creative process, using watercolours to enable malleability and freedom, then returning to pen work to ground my process. As for the paintings themselves, the use of nature and earth tones is also a part of my process, an invitation for my viewers to ponder their own lives. Modern life is constrained, rigid, and repetitive. It has become all too familiar to us now, but there are numerous opportunities to escape to a simpler life, flourishing with greenery and comfort in our vast biosphere. I do not want to criticise viewers for partaking in modern life, but instead, invoke an urge to occasionally find time to let go for just a moment, and temporarily forget about the monotony of our current lives.
