Otto Smale

The idea behind my artworks is to showcase the interaction between humans and nature. I have incorporated tramping huts into my artworks to symbolise this, as they are a visual representation of humans living harmoniously amongst nature. I want my art to highlight that we do not need to destroy nature in order to live amongst it. I want my art to highlight the issue of climate change. As someone who has grown up in New Zealand, tramping has naturally become integrated into my life. I love being amongst nature and disconnecting from the world of social media. This is partly why I chose to incorporate this into my portfolio, because it is something that is personal to me. Most of the huts depicted in my artworks are ones that I have actually visited and decided would be meaningful to me to incorporate them into my art.
