    Lily Hyde-Smith

"My work explores how memories change over time—how they blur together, fade, and merge, but still hold their beauty and meaning. Even if the details become distant, the feelings we had in those moments stay with us, and that’s what makes them special.

The thick painted lines in my work represent the “matrix” of memories, showing how nostalgia can become hazy, yet the emotions of joy and being with family remain. The woven lines reflect the different paths I’ve taken and how all my memories are connected in some way.

I’m inspired by Elizabeth Lennie and Rene Wiley, drawing from their expressive use of colour and movement to capture the emotion and depth of memory in my own work."
