    Kyra Mayers

"My art is all about honouring the skill and dedication my dad puts into his work as a builder. Growing up, I was fascinated by the hands-on nature of his craft and the attention to detail it required. This inspired me to focus on the smaller, often overlooked aspects of his work—like screws, tools, and textures—capturing his journey through intricate, hands-on compositions rather than a straightforward narrative.

I started by experimenting with illusion techniques and black-and-white photography, building my skills in Photoshop, ISO, and exposure. Over time, I embraced a more playful approach, prioritizing composition and physically creating each piece by cutting, assembling, and photographing. This process made me feel more connected to the theme of “Framing Reality” and helped me express my respect for his work in a way that feels personal.

I draw inspiration from artists like André Kertész, Jerry Takigawa, Angie Buckley, Kenneth Josephson, and Greg Sand. Their experimental styles have pushed me to explore new techniques, shaping my creative voice. My ultimate goal is to carry the same passion and dedication my dad has into my own field, particularly cinematography."
