Katie Hayles is a Christchurch-based painter who is eighteen years of age. Her work explores the power and impact that colour can have when used to portray emotions. Mixing techniques from contemporary painters such as Michael Borremans with old masters such as Diego Velazquez influences her loose and free brushwork. In other works the influence of the fauvists can be seen clearly.
Her painting works to explore the influence that colour has on the mind and it’s perception. Hayles is in her first year at Ilam school of fine arts as of 2019. She has exhibited at Windsor gallery in Christchurch as part of the Canterbury High School Year 13 art competition.
