    Anna Hilton

The theme and message that I had in mind while producing my work was the idea of urbanisation and overpopulation within cities (New York & Tokyo). I carried out some research before beginning my work and found that there can be serious effects economically, agriculturally and socially, which all contribute to further issues we find ourselves facing today. I developed my work to gradually show a descent into chaos with the use of text and colour and experimenting with layering, combining and exploring unconventional compositions. The works shown are the early stages of this exploration which was inspired by Brian Alfred and his use of undisturbed, post-human landscapes to create snippets of everyday life. I chose to crop the paintings to the essential elements to symbolise a naive outlook on the world as we often choose to ignore the bigger picture which might show a more unflattering reality of the world we live in. I chose to explore this theme as I hope to eventually move to New York City as the architecture and vibrancy of the city (and others of its kind) fascinate me. I however do see how contributing to overpopulating areas can be an issue which inspired me to take on this idea.
